EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head cross country coach April Likhite announced the addition of `A Havahla Haynes to her staff as an assistant coach. Haynes, a 2007 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, was a four-year member of the Badgers' cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams.
"I am very excited and honored to have 'A Havahla on board with me this season," Coach Likhite said. "Not only did she help bring success to the Badger cross country and track programs, but she was also a key leader on their team. Havie is extremely passionate about running and coaching, and I look forward to her playing an integral part within our program."
At Wisconsin, Haynes earned All-Big Ten and All-Midwest Regional honors for both cross country and track as a senior in 2006-07. She was a member of the 2006 cross country team that finished fourth in the NCAA Championships and competed in three NCAA Championship meets during her career. Haynes also garnered All-American honors for the 3,000m steeplechase during her senior year.
In addition to her running career, Haynes has been a counselor at the University of Wisconsin Cross Country Camp of Champions every summer since 2003. In this role, she taught long-distance running skill and technique to more than 200 campers and also educated participants on the importance of self-discipline, teamwork, and dedication in cross country.
Haynes will be with Coach Likhite and the rest of the Wildcats when they open their season on Friday, Aug. 29 in the DePaul Home Opener in Lincolnwood, Ill.
