EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern left-handed pitcher Eric Jokisch earned another honor for his standout season as he has been named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. A native of Virginia, Ill., Jokisch was one of three Big Ten players to be recognized, joining Ohio State pitcher Dean Wolosiansky and Illinois outfielder Casey McMurray.
Jokisch was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and second-team all-conference selection after posting an 8-2 record with a 4.17 ERA and four complete games in 73.1 innings pitched. The eight victories are the most ever by a Northwestern frosh.
Included in his season record was a 7-1 mark in conference play, with the seven wins being the most ever by a true freshman in Big Ten history. The league victory total matches Dan Brauer's team mark set in 2006. Perhaps Jokisch's finest effort of the season came in his final start of the year when he hurled a shutout in the Wildcats' 2-0 win at 17th-ranked and Big Ten regular season champion Michigan.
