EVANTON, Ill. - Northwestern freshman Eric Jokisch has been named the Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor of his career. He shares this week's award with Illinois' Phil Haig.

Jokisch joins Mike Kalina (Feb. 26) and Jake Goebbert (April 21) who were named Player of the Week and Joe Muraski who was named co-Pitcher of the Week (April 14) as Wildcat individuals who have received weekly accolades from the Big Ten this season.

Jokisch tossed his first career shutout in the second game of a doubleheader Friday as the Wildcats posted a 2-0 win at No. 17 and Big Ten regular season champion Michigan. The victory was the eighth of the season for the southpaw, raising his school freshman record. He scattered five hits in the contest while striking out four and inducing the dangerous Wolverine lineup into four double plays.

The win was his seventh in Big Ten play as he finished tops in the league in wins in conference games. The total marks the most by a true freshman in Big Ten history. It was the first time this season that Michigan had been shut out and the first time they had been blanked at home in 64 games.

Jokisch completed his first collegiate season leading Northwestern with an 8-2 record, a 4.16 ERA, four complete games and 73.1 innings pitched.
