EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Max Mann (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) of baseball and Lauren Delaney (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) of softball as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Mann led the baseball team with a .538 batting average last week, collecting seven hits in 13 at-bats and posting a .923 slugging percentage. He opened the week by tallying three hits in a 15-4 win over Elmhurst on Tuesday.
In Sunday's finale against Indiana, Mann went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored on Senior Day. He hit a home run in the second inning, doubled in the fourth, singled home a run in the seventh and doubled again in the eighth. His efforts raised his season batting average 52 points up to .306.
After beginning the week by being named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Delaney fired three-consecutive shutouts over the weekend to lead Northwestern to its first Big Ten Tournament title since 1982, earning tournament MVP honors in the process. Delaney allowed just five hits in 17.0 innings pitched, striking out 24.
She also broke the Northwestern single-season wins record with her 34th victory of the season, and became the second Wildcat in school history to reach the 400-strikeout mark in one year.
