2008 Big Ten Women's Championship Final Results
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- For the second consecutive day, Northwestern finished where it started, placing seventh at the 2008 Big Ten Championships in University Park, Pa. The Wildcats shot a 310 on the day to finish at 74-over for the four-day event, edging out Iowa and Minnesota by five strokes.
Freshman Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) was the top Wildcat performer since the opening round and led NU with a 20-over 308 (75-76-78-79) for the 72-hole tournament, good enough for a 28th-place tie. Junior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) finished a stroke back at 21-over 309 (78-76-77-78) while senior Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) again had the day's low score for NU at 75, shooting a 22-over 310 (77-85-73-75).
Freshman Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) was 26-over for the tournament, shooting a 314 (76-76-79-83), two strokes better than senior Katie Trachok's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) 28-over 316 (84-79-75-78). Senior Justina Yu (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) rounded out the scoring for Northwestern with a 41-over 329 (85-82-78-84).
After being in a fourth-place tie after round one, NU dropped back to seventh in round two where it would stay for the duration of the tournament. The Wildcats remained consistent with a four-round score of 306-307-303-310 to finish at 1226.
Sixth-ranked Purdue ran away with the Big Ten Championship, putting together four sub-300 rounds to finish at 17-over 1169 (298-288-286-297) and defeat reigning champion Michigan State by 21 strokes. The Spartans finished with a 38-over 1190 (292-303-295-300), with Ohio State coming in third at 50-over 1202. Indiana (62-over 1214) edged out Michigan (65-over 1217) for third-place while Wisconsin placed sixth with a 71-over 1223.
Northwestern wraps up the regular season with an overall record of 65-72-1, as Sunday marked the final regular season tournament for head coach Chris Regenberg, who is retiring after 16 years at the helm of the Wildcat program.
