EVANSTON, Ill. - Ohio State scored eight times with two outs in the second inning as it earned a doubleheader split with Northwestern on Saturday by taking the nightcap 13-1 at Rocky Miller Park. The Wildcats won the first game of the twinbill 6-4.

Two errors in the top of the first inning cost NU an unearned run as the Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead against starter Bo Schultz.

The senior right-hander retired the first two OSU batters in the top of the second inning, but the third out proved to be more than elusive. Consecutive walks set the table for Ryan Dew who took advantage of a stiff wind blowing out to left field to hit an opposite-field three-run homer to make it 4-0.

The wind continued to play tricks following two singles and a walk which loaded the bases. Brian DeLucia got one up into the jet stream in left-center, but the Northwestern outfield was able to haul it in as DeLucia raced all the way around the bases for the rare inside-the-park grand slam. Dan Burkhart followed with a homer of his own over the fence and all of a sudden the Buckeyes were ahead 9-0.

Ohio State would get one more run against reliever Matt Gailey in the third inning, but the freshman lefty held the Buckeyes scoreless over the next two frames.

Three walks in the sixth marked the end of Gailey's day as a run-scoring groundout and a two-run double by Ryan Meade against Brian Morgan accounted for OSU's scoring.

Northwestern was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Kalina started the inning with a single and was at third with two outs when pinch hitter Jake Wilson came through with a RBI single to center.

Schultz (3-6) took the loss for the Wildcats, while Dean Wolosiansky (6-2) went the distance for Ohio State to get the win.
