MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- No. 1 Northwestern picked up its second victory of the weekend with a 7-0 sweep of Minnesota. The Wildcats earned their 16th-consecutive victory and improved to 22-1 overall with just one regular season dual match remaining.

The 'Cats (22-1, 9-0) took a 1-0 match advantage after taking the doubles point from Minnesota. With the same lineup in place as Saturday, the Wildcats were once again able to prevail at two courts en route to clinching the point.

Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) and Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) dominated on their way to an 8-1 victory at No. 2. Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) breezed through doubles for the second-straight match, picking up an 8-5 victory at No. 1, securing the doubles point. The pair improves to 11-0 in dual competition this season and 17-1 overall.

The Wildcats fell by default at No. 3. After leading the match, 5-4, Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No. 204) were retired when Conill went down with an ankle injury. Despite the loss, the Wildcats took the 1-0 lead into singles play.

Northwestern took a 2-0 advantage when Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) won in straight sets at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Ghazal improves to 19-3 overall this season with her 11th-consecutive singles victory. Suzie Matzenauer gave the 'Cats a 3-0 match lead with her 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. Matzenauer earns her 20th win of the dual season, as she improves to 20-2 from the No. 6 position this year.

The Wildcats clinched the match, taking a 4-0 lead, when Georgia Rose won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Rose redeems herself after falling in a tight match Saturday, by dominating her opponent from the start on Sunday. Fifth-ranked Rose improves to 14-3 from No. 2 this season.

Maria Mosolova gave Northwestern a 5-0 match advantage with her, 6-3, 6-3, win at No. 1. Mosolova is on an eight match winning streak of her own, and improves to 17-2 in dual singles this season. Third-ranked Mosolova holds an impressive 32-4 overall record this season.

The 'Cats went up 6-0 when Samantha Murray won in three sets at No. 3. After dropping a tough first set, 7-6, Murray came out firing in a 6-0 sweep of the second. With the match already determined, a `superbreaker' would decide the match at No. 3. Determined to take the victory for her team and keep the shutout in tact, Murray clinched with a 1-0 (10-4) third set victory.

In a competitive battle, Lauren Lui kept her winning streak rolling at No. 4, with a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10) victory over her opponent. Lui secured the 7-0 sweep for the 'Cats with her 16th straight singles win. Lui improves to 19-0 from No. 4 this season and advances her unbeaten streak to 26 from the same position dating to last year.

With the weekend sweep, the 'Cats continued their domination over Big Ten opponents. Northwestern improves to 9-0 in conference play and have clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season championship. The 'Cats need just one win to secure their fourth-consecutive 10-0 conference finish. The Wildcats have not lost to a Big Ten opponent in 59 straight matches.

Northwestern returns to Evanston for its final regular season dual match next weekend, as it plays host to Michigan State. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, and is slated to be featured on the Big Ten Network. The Wildcats will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Big Ten Championship, April 24-27, in search of their record-setting 10th-consecutive Big Ten title.
