EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior defender Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Player of the Week by league officials for the week of March 24.
Finch, the Wildcat team captain, played a major role in leading top-ranked Northwestern to three victories over top-20 opponents this past week. She caused 13 turnovers, scooped up nine ground balls and won four draw controls in the `Cats wins over sixth-ranked Syracuse, ninth-ranked Georgetown and 18th-ranked Vanderbilt. Finch also anchored the NU defense which shut down the opponent's leading scorer in every game, holding Syracuse's Katie Rowan to one shot, Georgetown's Molly Ford to two goals, and Vanderbilt's Margie Curran to just two shots.
Inside Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA's Defender of the Year and first-team All American in 2007, Finch ranks first in the nation in caused turnovers (3.20), was named a preseason first-team All-American and has been named to the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list. She becomes the third Wildcat to earn Player of the Week honors along with Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) and Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y/Brighton).
Finch and the rest of the Wildcats face a stiff challenge this weekend, traveling to seventh-ranked Duke (7-3) Sunday, April 2. Opening draw is set for 12 noon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
