AUSTIN, Texas -- Northwestern won its eighth consecutive duel match Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns. The Wildcats improve to 14-1 on the season and prepare to put the top-rank on the line tomorrow at second-ranked Baylor.

Northwestern took a sweep of the doubles point and a 1-0 lead with hard work from all three positions. At No. 1, Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) continued to impress as the 28th-ranked doubles duo with an 8-2 victory over the 29th-ranked pair from Texas.

The 'Cats grabbed a 2-0 lead when Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) took a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5. Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) then followed suit with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Washington/Bellarmine) faced a rare defeat at No. 6, losing the match 5-7, 1-6. Matzenauer ends her consecutive dual win streak at 21 and still stands at 14-1 this season.

The Wildcats clinched the dual when they took a 4-1 advantage with 5th-ranked Georgia Rose's 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2. Lauren Lui improved to 11-0 from No. 4 this season with her 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Caroline Larsson, giving the 'Cats a 5-1 lead for the match.

In another rare occurrence for the Wildcats, third-ranked freshman Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No. 204) fell at No. 1, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (1). She still remains as one of the top collegiate players in the nation with an overall record of 24-4 this season.

Northwestern is certain to have its plate full Wednesday afternoon as it travels across Texas to face second-ranked Baylor. In a highly anticipated match between the No. 1 and 2 teams, the Wildcats hope to confirm their status as the top-ranked squad. Northwestern returns to its Big Ten schedule when it travels to Purdue this Saturday, March 29.
