EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern has named Eric Jokisch (Virginia, Ill./Virginia) of baseball and Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) of fencing as its Hilton Garden Athletes of the Week.

Jokisch went the distance on the mound in Northwestern's 6-3 win Friday over UIC. The freshman left-hander tossed his first complete game en route to earning his first collegiate win. In his nine innings of work, Jokisch threw 119 pitches, scattering nine hits while striking out five and walking only one.

After the Wildcats took the lead in the top of the eighth inning, he retired each of the final six batters he faced in order to preserve the victory. So far this season, he paces all Northwestern starters with a 3.32 ERA and a .243 opponents batting average.

Nemecek earned her third All-America honor in as many years by placing eighth in the foil at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships held in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend. Her finish helped Northwestern place seventh in the women's competition and 12th overall when including the men's results.

Nemecek posted a team-best record of 15-8 at the event. She placed eighth at the NCAA meet as a freshman and seventh a year ago.
