Kalina Named Big Ten Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern senior outfielder Mike Kalina has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor for Kalina in his career.
It marks the sixth consecutive year that a Northwestern player has earned the Big Ten's first Player of the Week honor of the season.
Kalina takes home the award after leading Northwestern to a series win over Cal State Northridge. He batted .500 (7-for-14) on the weekend, recording three multi-hit games.
Kalina also scored and drove in at least one run in each contest, combining for five runs scored and eight RBI on the weekend. He posted an impressive .929 slugging percentage in the three-game series.
Kalina's best game came in the season opener as he went 3-for-6 with four RBI, three runs scored, and fell a double shy of the cycle in the 13-7 Wildcat win.
The Wildcats return to action this weekend when they travel to Tampa, Fla. NU will face Oklahoma State Friday and Sunday sandwiched around a game against host South Florida Saturday.
