Below is a letter from Northwestern University President Henry S. Bienen to Northern Illinois University President John Peters.

Dear John:
On behalf of Northwestern University, I extend my deepest sympathies to you and the Northern Illinois University community for the losses you suffered in yesterday's tragic shooting on your campus. Our students, faculty and staff join you in mourning the deaths of those killed and in hoping for the swift and full recovery of those injured.
I have been informed that members of our counseling services staff are providing assistance to your service there. If there is anything else that Northwestern University can do to aid your institution, please do not hesitate to ask.
Again, our condolences and best wishes to you and all members of the Northern Illinois community in this time of sorrow. Our hearts and thoughts are with you.
