EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Craig Moore (Doylestown, Pa./Lawrenceville (N.J.) Prep) of men's basketball and Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) of women's tennis as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Moore averaged 20 points per game and knocked down 10 total 3-pointers in Northwestern's two games last week. On Wednesday against Minnesota, Moore poured in 19 points including five 3-pointers and dished out five assists in a 92-72 loss for the Wildcats.
Saturday at No. 11 Michigan State, Moore scored a game-high 21 points with five more buckets from behind the arc to keep the Wildcats close to the Spartans deep into the second half.
Matzenauer went a perfect 4-0 in singles last weekend to help the Wildcats reach the finals of the ITA Indoor Championships for the first time in program history. Matzenauer started the weekend by winning the clincher in NU's 4-1 win over Fresno State.
She breezed through her match against No. 7 California in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-2, before scoring a 6-0, 6-0 win against No. 12 North Carolina in the semifinals. In the finals against Georgia Tech, Matzenauer evened the team score at 2-2 with a straight-set win over 56th-ranked Noelle Hickey, 6-2, 6-4.
All of Matzenauer's four wins came in straight sets.
