EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat sophomore Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) of the women's basketball team and junior Kevin Coble (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) of the men's basketball team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their efforts over the weekend.
Jaeschke recorded a career-high 34 points on 11-of-24 shooting and collected 10 rebounds in NU's 78-75 overtime loss at Clemson Thursday. She finished 12-of-13 from the free throw line, tying an NU record for free throw attempts in a game, while her 34 points match the season-high among all Big Ten players this year. Jaeschke was also just one rebound shy of a double-double earlier in the week against Marquette.
Coble scored a season-best 25 points in NU's 63-36 victory over DePaul Saturday, earning MVP honors annually awarded in the crosstown rivalry game. He out-scored DePaul all by himself in the first half, posting 16 points before the break. In a win vs. Florida State on Wednesday, Coble led the 'Cats in rebounds (8), assists (7), steals (2) and blocked shots (2).
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is junior Kay Sampson (San Francisco, Calif./Drew School) of the women's soccer team. Sampson and other student-athletes from various teams collected non-perishable food items from neighborhoods around campus and at men's and women's basketball games. One of Northwestern's sponsors, Krakus Ham, teamed with SAAC and donated hams to the food drive as well. Sampson and all the members of SAAC donated all food items to Family Focus of Evanston.
