Box Score

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- Sophomore Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) tallied 19 points but it was not enough as Northwestern dropped a 66-54 decision to Michigan Sunday afternoon at Crisler Arena. Meshia Reed (Country Club Hills, Ill./Stockbridge (Ga.)) joined Jaeschke in double figures with 12 points on 4-of-7 from the field.

Northwestern used a 50 percent shooting effort through the first seven minutes to build an early 10-6 advantage.

The Wildcat defense held Michigan's offense silent from the 16:44 mark until Carmen Reynolds hit two free throws with 8:19 remaining. In the meantime, a three-pointer in the corner from Reed and two free throws from Brittany Orban (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) gave NU their largest lead of the game at the time--a 17-10 advantage with 9:21 left in the first half.

Michigan came back to notch the score at 17 with 5:36 remaining, but Northwestern held on to the lead the rest of the stanza, taking a one-point advantage, 24-23, into the locker room.

Reed led NU with seven points, while Amy Jaeschke and Ellen Jaeschke (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) each contributed six at the break. Reed and the Jaeschke cousins combined to connect on 8-of-17 from the field and helped Northwestern to a 40 percent shooting clip.

UM's Melinda Queen opened the second half with a trey to put the Wolverines ahead by a bucket 15 seconds into the frame. The Wolverines continued to find the bucket, going on a 15-4 run over the next 7:30.

Michigan built a 51-34 lead with 7:52 left, but NU ran off six unanswered points to pull the difference to 11 with just over six minutes left. A three-pointer by Amy Jaeschke four minutes later pulled NU to within 10, 57-47, but that was as close as NU would get, as Michigan held on for a 66-54 victory.

The Wildcats are next in action on New Year's Eve when they host No. 17 Ohio State at 1 p.m.
