EVANSTON, Ill. --The Northwestern University Department of Athletics hosted its annual Field Trip Day event on Tuesday, December 16.Over 3,700 youth from area schools attended the game and watched as the Wildcats defeat the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern 68-51. The event, which was free of charge to attendees, combined the excitement of Northwestern women's basketball with a message stressing the importance of good sportsmanship. This year, the event also featured a halftime performance by the Bucket Boys.
The event has become an annual tradition for many schools around the Chicagoland area. The setting allows teachers to expose their students to the traditional values of education, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles in a non-traditional setting. Schools in attendance for the event this year included Clinton Elementary, Hubbard Woods Elementary, Devonshire Elementary, Jane Stenson Elementary, Worth Junior High, Nichols Middle School, Washington School, Rhodes Magnet School, Old Orchard Junior High, Cherokee Elementary, Highland School, King Lab Magnet School, Kenyon Woods Middle School, Chute Middle School, Haven Middle School, Golf Middle School, Westmont Junior High, Middleton Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, Baker Demonstration School, Deer Path Elementary, Stockton School, Gale Community Academy, Burr Ridge Middle School, and Lincolnwood Elementary.
"Field Trip Day is a tremendous event that our team has been looking forward to this season," said Wildcat Head Coach Joe McKeown. "The opportunity for Northwestern to showcase our student-athletes as role models and demonstrate a valuable message to area youth is great lesson to share."
