EVANSTON, Ill.-- Wildcat junior Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) of the volleyball team and senior Geoff Fallon (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) of the men's soccer team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Nobilio recorded 17 digs Saturday evening, making her the all-time digs leader in NU history. Nobilio, who still has a season left to play, upped her career total to 1,665 and closed her junior season with 556 on the year, the third-highest single-season total in Wildcat history. She now holds the first, third and fourth-best yearly dig totals in the program's history.
Fallon scored the game-winning goal in the second half of Northwestern's 1-0 win against third-seeded Akron in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Fallon took a through-pass from Jack Hillgard and unleashed a left-footed shot into the wind and sleet at Lakeside Field that snuck inside the far post, giving Fallon his first goal of 2008 and the Wildcats a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals against North Carolina.
This week's Community Service Athletes of the Week are Darby St. Clair-Barrie (Scituate, Mass./Brooks School) of the lacrosse team and Hallie Busta (Jackson, Ohio/Massillon-Jackson) of the cross country team, who visited Manierre Elementary in Chicago on Nov. 20. They met with third and fourth grade classes to speak about the importance of exercise and staying physically fit. They also answered questions about collegiate athletics and their future career goals. Their visit was in partnership with the community outreach program at Children's Memorial Hospital.
