EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat junior Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) and senior Craig Moore (Doylestown, Pa./Lawrenceville (N.J.) Prep) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances of the week.
Wong had a hand in breaking two pool records at the TYR Invitational while also winning the 50 free with a career-best time of 22.94 that fell just .01 of a second shy of the Norris pool record. Wong qualified for the consolation final of the 100 free where she swam a pool mark and NCAA 'B' provisional qualifying time of 49.74 to win the heat. She also swam on NU's pool-record-breaking 800 free relay. This is her second Athlete of the Week award in 2008.
Moore had a career night Saturday in a 73-64 Northwestern win at Brown, knocking down a school-record nine 3-pointers en route to a career-high 31 points. He hit eight treys in the first half on just nine attempts. In Wednesday's win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Moore totaled 14 points and became NU's career leader in 3-pointers made, surpassing Vedran Vukusic, who made 212 threes from 2002-06.
This week's Community Service Athletes of the Week are the members of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams. On Nov. 15, both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted a clinic immediately following their combined dual meets. Approximately 50 children in the eighth grade and under participated in the hour-long clinic during which the swimmers played games and provided some instruction on stroke development for the children. Afterward, the swimmers enjoyed refreshments with the participants.
