EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads south Saturday as one of 33 teams competing in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla. Three Northwestern runners—seniors Carly Brown and Marcellee Fullwood and freshman Sophie Ewald—figure to pace the Wildcats as they have throughout the regular season.

Northwestern is looking to improve its overall team placing from the season before for the second consecutive year after finishing 14th a year ago. During April Likhite's first stint as Wildcats head coach, NU recorded Regional finishes of 12th, sixth and fourth.

In her first year in Evanston, Ewald has been the top Wildcat finisher three times for NU, including at the 6K Big Ten Championships two weekends ago. Ewald recorded a time of 22:52.1 on her way to a 69th-place finish in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Fullwood has come on strong down the stretch of her final season, placing second among NU runners at both Pre-Nationals, where she notched an impressive 21:59, and the Big Ten Championships. Last year at Midwest Regionals, Fullwood crossed second for NU in 22:04.

Brown has remained a team leader and a significant force for Northwestern during her senior campaign. After leading the team in four meets as a junior, Brown matched that total once again in 2008, including a 21:41 6K performance at the Pre-Nationals.

Saturday's Regional Championships are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Complete results will be available on NUsports.com following the race's conclusion.
