CHICAGO -- Sophomore Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) recorded her first double-double of the season, pouring in 21 points and grabbing a career-best 14 boards, but it was not enough as Chicago State bested the Wildcats 76-69 Friday evening at the Jones Convocation Center.

Fellow sophomore Meshia Reed (Country Club Hills, Ill./Stockbridge (Ga.)) and freshman Brittany Orban (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) joined Jaeschke in double figures, contributing 12 points each.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 11-5 lead, thanks to three baskets by Jaeschke and a trey by Orban. NU continued to find the basket, stringing together a 5-0 run to build a seven-point lead with 12:47 remaining. But Chicago State found its answer beyond the arc, cutting the lead to one thanks to three's by Courtney Waldon and Jael Pena.

A pair of free throws by Pena gave Chicago State a 22-21 advantage with 8:35 remaining.

Northwestern took a page out of CSU's game plan, answering with an 8-2 run, courtesy of two treys. But four-consecutive free throws by Jasmin Dixon cut the NU lead to one, 29-28, with just over five minutes remaining.

The two teams combined for just four baskets and a pair of free throws over the remaining five minutes, setting the halftime score at 35-34 in favor of the Wildcats.

Northwestern held the home team to 30-percent first-half shooting, while converting on 45 percent of its looks. Jaeschke led the Wildcats with 10 points and nine rebounds at the break.

Chicago State opened the second half with five-straight points, giving them a 39-35 lead two minutes into the period.

The Lady Cougars continued to build their lead and kept NU at arms distance throughout the second half until the five minute-mark when the Wildcats employed a full-court press to spark a momentum shift and pull the game to within five.

A bucket by Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill,/Carmel) with 2:45 left Chicago State's lead to one possession, 67-64. Dixon provided a delayed answer with a bucket at the 1:45 mark to push the difference to five. Northwestern was forced to foul and the Cougars converted effectively enough at the charity stripe to seal the victory.

The Wildcats are next in action Monday evening when they host Kansas State in an 8 p.m. contest at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The game is being broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
