EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcats head coach Claire Pollard has announced Kate Turvy of Dublin, Ohio, as the first signee of Northwestern's 2009-10 freshman class. During her sophomore and junior years at Dublin Coffman High School, Turvy posted a perfect 59-0 record and won every match in straight sets.

“We really believe Kate is going to be a great addition to the Northwestern tennis family,” Pollard said. “Unfortunately we'll be losing three great seniors to graduation at the end of this year but we're very confident that Kate will play an important part in the next wave of players at Northwestern.”

In addition to her successes at Dublin Coffman, Turvy competed last summer at the USTA G18 National Team Championships in Berkeley, Calif., where she helped the Midwest region team win the title. At the Midwest Fall G18 tournament in October, Turvy walked away with a singles title after winning all six matches she played.

Turvy is currently the 13th-ranked recruit in the nation by tennisrecruiting.net.
