Robison, Chernyakova Take Doubles Title at Desert Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. -- In day two of the Duals in the Desert, senior Keri Robison teamed with freshman Elena Chernyakova to capture the Flight Three doubles title. The duo defeated Meg Fanjoy and Laura Reichart of North Carolina in the finals, 8-5, while NU singles play was highlighted by sophomore Maria Mosolova's win against UNC's Sanaz Marand to reach the Flight One singles final.
In Flight Four singles, junior Lauren Lui defeated Ashley Joelson of UCLA (6-4, 6-4) to advance to the finals. Robison scored a singles win to along with her doubles title, knocking off UCLA's Ana Victoria Lind in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Stacey Lee won her second match in as many days, beating Maya Zein of Texas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Chernyakova also scored a win against a Longhorn, beating Sarah Lancaster, 6-2, 6-2.
Lee and Ghazal overcame UNC's Jelena Durisic and Jocelyn Ffriend in Flight Four round robin doubles play, 8-1, before falling to Texas' freshman duo of Maya Zein-El-Abdin and Julia Wiegand, 8-6.
Samantha Murray was eliminated from Flight Three singles by Baylor's Jelena Stanivuik in a tightly contested three-set match, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2), while Nazlie Ghazal lost her match to Texas' Abby Lui, 6-3, 6-2.
Northwestern continues competition at the Duals in the Desert on Sunday.
