EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns to the links Oct. 6 and 7, but this time it gets to do so in its own backyard, hosting the 2008 Windy City Collegiate Championships at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.
"It is going to be a major tool for us, as we were able to draw some of the top teams in the country to our backyard as well as some quality teams that we've never seen before," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "To have schools like Arizona, Texas, TCU and Oklahoma come here is big, as those are the teams that we need to start beating. To have them all in our own backyard will be a neat experience."
The 54-hole Championships will be held at Evanston Golf Club with a par-72, 6,320 yard layout. The first 36 holes will be played Monday, Oct. 6, beginning at 7:30 a.m, with the final 18 holes getting underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Live scoring of the Windy City Collegiate will be available at Golfstat.com.
Northwestern welcomes a challenging 13-team field to Skokie, including five teams who competed in last year's NCAA Championships and an additional four which qualified for their respective regional tournaments. Arizona enters the tournament as the highest ranked team, sitting at 24th in the Golfweek Sagarin ratings, followed closely by Purdue at 26th and UNLV at 27th. TCU (42nd) and Michigan (49th) also enter the Championships with top-50 rankings. East Carolina, Illinois, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas State and UNC Wilmington round out the field.
NU looks to improve on its sixth-place finish at the season-opening Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 20-21 in East Lansing, Mich. Senior Jennifer Hong finished in a tie for 20th place shooting a 15-over 231 (78-77-76), followed closely behind by sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt in 22nd place at 16-over 232 (76-80-76). Sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat and freshmen Alexandra Lederhausen and Kylie Fuller are expected to round out the scorecard for the Wildcats.
