EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern began play at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing, Mich., Friday with a host of main draw doubles matches. All four of NU's doubles pairings won their opening round matches before two of them posted second-round wins to advance to the round of 16.
Sophomore Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia/No. 204) and senior Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) got things started with an 8-6 victory against Michelle Sammons and Stephanie Wooton of Purdue. They then stamped a ticket to the round of 16 with a win against Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis of Toledo.
NU's pair of senior Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid), ranked No. 7 in the nation, has also advanced to the round of 16. They beat Britney Larson and Rickie Honiball of Miami, 8-3, before taking down Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Koprivica of Minnesota, 8-0.
Also advancing to the round of 32 were junior Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) and freshman Elena Chernyakova (Moscow, Russia/No. 150).
