EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat junior Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) of the volleyball team and senior Eric Peterman (Sherman, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) of the football team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Nobilio spurred Northwestern to its first Big Ten win in a five-set upset against No. 17 Illinois. Nobilio recorded 34 digs, which is the fourth-best single-game total in school history. She is second in the Big Ten with 370 digs and has moved up to second all-time in NU school history with 1,481.
Peterman became the first Northwestern player since 1982 to catch a touchdown pass and throw for another in NU's 48-26 win against Purdue. In the second quarter, he scored on a 45-yard catch-and-run before tossing a 30-yard TD pass to Sidney Stewart off a reverse. He is second on the team in receiving yards (324) and is closing in on the school's top-10 list for career receiving yards (1,571).
This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is C.J. Bachér (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit) of the football team. C.J. and other football players welcomed youngsters from Willard Elementary School to practice on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to speak to them about the importance of team work and dedication in the classroom. Students received a tour of Northwestern's athletic facilities and had lunch in the Wildcat Den.
