COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Northwestern finished its run at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Ohio State University on Saturday. Wildcats Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./Univ. of Nebraska -Independent Study H.S.) dropped their round of 16 doubles match and also suffered losses in singles.

The 'Cats started the morning off with singles play. No. 21 seed Dwyer defeated Michigan's Chris Madden in a tough three-setter, dropping the first set before fighting back for a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory. In the second round, Dwyer fell to 11th-seeded Matt Allare of host Ohio State, 6-3, 7-6.

Sanborn fell to the Hawkeyes' Christian Bierich, 7-5 6-3. Sanborn then lost to John Allare of Michigan State, 6-2, 6-1, in singles consolation.

In doubles action in the afternoon, the duo fell to the Buckeyes' Mike O'Connell/Balazs Novak in the round of 16, 8-2.

The 'Cats are back in action at the Big Ten Singles Championships, which are set to begin Oct. 30 in Madison, Wisconsin.
