EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcat junior Kay Sampson (San Francisco, Calif./Drew School) of the women's soccer team and sophomore Matt Eliason (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) of the men's soccer team have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Sampson entered NU's game against Indiana in the 79th minute and, seven minutes later, broke a 1-1 tie with a goal to lift Northwestern to a 2-1 victory. Sampson put a perfectly struck header in the upper right corner of the net off a cross by sophomore Sam Greene. Sampson's only other career goal came as time expired to help Northwestern tie Colgate in 2007.

Eliason scored both of NU's goals as the Wildcats remained undefeated with a 2-1 win at Wisconsin Sunday afternoon. Eliason, who entered the week just one behind the nation's leaders in goal scoring, raised his team-best total to 11, tied for the top spot in the Big Ten. He is already tied for the sixth-best season mark in Northwestern history and has tallied six game-winning scores in 2008.

This week's Community Service Athlete of the Week is Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) of the swimming team, who led several initiatives in Northwestern's campus-wide participation in Make a Difference Day at the John Evans Alumni Center on Sunday, Oct. 12.
