Wildcats Undefeated in Day One of Wildcat Fall Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern women's tennis team wrapped up its first day at the Wildcat Fall Invitational in undefeated fashion, finishing with a combined 8-0 record in singles and doubles. The host Wildcats swept five matches in singles, three of them in straight sets.
In Flight A singles, junior Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) posted a straight set victory over Big Ten opponent Abajian of Indiana. Senior Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) had to battle back and win it in three after dropping the second set to Michigan State's Kebler.
In Flight B singles, senior Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Florida) continued the trend of straight set victories with identical 7-5 scores in a win over the Badgers' Mirnova. Freshman Elena Chernyakova (Moscow, Russia) double bageled her opponent from Oklahoma in a quick match.
The freshman wins didn't stop with Chernyakova as Stacey Lee (Old Westbury, NY/Wheatley) also won a tough three-setter in Flight C singles.
The Wildcat domination was also evident in doubles as the team of Ghazal and Chernyakova breezed into the second round of Flight A doubles with victories of 8-2 and 8-3. Robison and Lee won their first round match of Flight B doubles, but their second round match was discontinued and will be finished on Saturday.
The action continues at Vandy Christie Tennis Center on Saturday with play beginning at approximately 9 a.m.
