EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion) of wrestling and Meshia Reed (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge) as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Fox won the title in the heavyweight division at Midlands "45" on Dec. 30. Fox battled with Mike Faust from the Hawkeye Wrestling Club in the 285 lb. final. The final match took two tiebreak sessions before the All-American took his first career Midlands title, 5-3, on a reversal.
Fox beat out Iowa State's Dave Zabriskie 4-3 in the semifinals at 285 lbs. Fox was the No. 1 seed and is the top-ranked heavyweight in the nation.
Reed notched a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds against Michigan on Sunday to achieve the first double-double of her career. Four of Reed's eight field goals were three-pointers. The total eclipsed a temporary career best of 23 points that the freshman scored against Indiana on Dec. 31. Reed is averaging 10.8 ppg and 4.1 rpg in her first season as a Wildcat.
