EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern has named Kevin Coble of men's basketball (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) and Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) of women's tennis as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Coble had a stellar week, averaging 25.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in his first two starts of the season. The sophomore forward scored a career-high 34 points against Michigan Saturday, connecting on 14 of 18 field goal attempts, including four-of-five from 3-point range. The point total was the highest in Bill Carmody's eight seasons as head coach at Northwestern and is the most by a Big Ten player in a game this season. Coble also posted team-high totals of 17 points and seven rebounds in the Wildcats' contest at Minnesota Wednesday.
Murray won the Flight B competition at the Wildcat Invitational with nine points, three higher than her closest competition. The sophomore went 3-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles on the weekend, with most of her damage coming in Flight B. She also earned five points in Flight A, which was good for third place. Overall, the women's team did not drop any singles matches and went 18-2 in doubles competition.
