EVANSTON, Ill.-- Three Wildcat women's tennis players will compete at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, which will be held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore County Day) is in the singles ITA Main Draw, played from Oct. 4-7. The junior finished 2006-07 as an all-American singles and doubles player for the Wildcats and reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. The 2007 Big Ten Player of the Year garnered a 26-5 overall record, 16-2 in duals and 5-0 in the Big Ten. She was ranked as the No. 13 singles player in the nation.
Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England, Altrincham Grammar School) is a selection for the women's doubles on Sept. 29-30 and also will be in the qualifying section of the singles tournament on Oct. 2-3. Murray was named as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and qualified for the NCAA tournament in singles. Murray finished the year with a 14-11 overall record in singles, including a 7-3 mark in Big Ten play, which earned her a ranking of 38th in the nation in singles play.
Last season at the ITA Championships, Murray advanced to quarterfinals in singles and made it to doubles semifinals with partner Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). Over the summer, Rose participated in the singles and mixed doubles portion of the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Murray fell in the singles tournament 6-3, 2-6, 2-6 to the No. 8 seed Melissa Torres from Mexico after receiving a first-round bye and played in mixed doubles with Kenneth Skupski, but lost 2-3, 3-6 to the Czech tandem of Eva Hrdinova and Pavel Snobel.
Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) was selected to the prequalifying portion of the singles tournament played on Sept. 29-30 and also to the women's doubles tournament with Murray as her partner. The sophomore ended last season on a 12-match winning streak and posted a 20-5 record in overall duals, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the conference. Ironically, it was Murray who knocked Lui out of last year's ITA Championships in the round of 16.
