EVANSTON, ILL. -- Northwestern's 2007 women's cross country schedule has been released and the Wildcats will begin Sept. 1 at the UIC Home Opener in Palos Hills, Ill.
"I am very pleased with our 2007 schedule and I am looking forward to getting the season started," head coach April Likhite said. "We specifically picked meets that would allow our team to be competitive and at the same time challenge us to reach our full potential."
Nine days later, the team travels to Van Cortlandt, N.Y., for the Fordham Invitational, followed by a return trip to Illinois for the Illinois Intercollegiate meet and Forester Invitational. NU's final meet in the month requires a trip to South Bend, Ind., for the Adidas Invitational on Sept. 28.
"The Fordham Invitational will be our first taste of national competition on a very challenging course at Van Cortlandt Park," Likhite said. "We opted to skip the pre-national meet this year so we could race on the regional course prior to the NCAA Regional Championships."
In the month of October, the Wildcats will take part in the Bradley Invitational and then begin their postseason schedule on Oct. 28 at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
The NCAA Regional Championships will be held Nov. 10, marking the Wildcats' second trip to Peoria, Ill., this season. The NCAA Championships are to be held nine days later in Terre Haute, Ind.
