Eileen Canney Invited to USA National Team Olympic Selection Camp

EVANSTON, Ill. -- 2007 Northwestern graduate Eileen Canney is one of 32 invitees to the USA Softball Women's National Team Olympic Selection Camp scheduled for September 10-14 in Chula Vista, Calif. The team selected from this camp will go on to represent the United States at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

Canney, the ace of National Professional Fastpitch's New England Riptide, currently leads the NPF with 117 strikeouts in 88.2 innings pitched, while ranking second in the league with a 1.03 ERA.

Canney was a two-time NFCA All-America selection and two-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Year as a Wildcat, compiling four wins and one All-Tournament Team selection at softball's pre-eminent showcase, the Women's College World Series.

Canney is Northwestern's all-time leader in wins with 97, and ranks second in school history with 1,142 strikeouts. She previously was invited to the June 11-15 Women's National Team selection camp.

The roster for the 2008 USA Softball Women's National Team will be announced on September 17 and the selected team will begin training together in late September.
