Northwestern Names Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Mike Kalina (Munster, Ind./Munster) of baseball and Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) of women's lacrosse its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Kalina started all six games last week for the Wildcats and batted .462 with a team-high 12 hits and 9 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .481 and raised his batting average 57 points.

In NU's series-opening win against second-place Minnesota, Kalina had two hits and two RBI. He had two hits and an RBI in the 'Cats 9-7 win in the series finale. This is the second Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Kalina's career.

Nielsen took home ALC Tournament MVP honors after dominating the tournament in two Northwestern victories. She recorded a total of seven goals and nine assists on the weekend.

She now has 61 assists on the year -- a Northwestern single-season record and second on the NCAA's all-time single-season list. Her 106 total points is one away from the NU record of 107. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Nielsen's career.
