EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Jake Goebbert (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) of baseball and Katie Logan (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) of softball as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Goebbert entered Sunday's series finale 9-for-11 at the plate and with five RBI, which included three doubles. Then the first-year player went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday's 11-5 win, including a two-run triple. His three hits gave him an unbelievable .750 batting average in the four games against Purdue.
Overall in the series, he was 12-for-16 with eight RBI, three doubles, a triple and he scored six runs. The first baseman had three or more hits in all but one game.
Logan hit a team-best .583 with three runs scored and two steals in Northwestern's NCAA Regional championship over the weekend. Logan began the weekend with a 3-for-4 performance Friday against Wright State, then again was 3-for-4 in Saturday's win against Illinois State.
On Sunday in the championship game against the Redbirds, Logan smacked a double and scored the go-ahead run for the 'Cats in a 4-1 victory.
