EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Cole Livermore (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) of baseball and Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Livermore pitched 10 innings and threw 120 pitches to pick up the win in Northwestern's 6-5 victory over Illinois on Sunday. The freshman spaced nine hits and two walks over the 10 innings and gave up only two earned runs. It was Livermore's second complete game in eight starts. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Livermore's career.
Lui won three singles and two doubles matches to help the Wildcats to victories over No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 53 Minnesota and No. 57 Iowa. Lui won her No. 4 singles match in straight sets Friday against the Irish.
On Sunday, Lui and partner Keri Robison survived four matches points to win at No. 1 doubles. The freshman has won seven-straight singles and 10 of her last 11 doubles matches. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Lui's career.
