EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Joe Muraski (Rothschild, Wis./D.C. Everest) of baseball and Christa French (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) of women's fencing its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Muraski started the first game of his collegiate career last Tuesday against Massachusetts and was in total control from start to finish. He pitched all nine innings as Northwestern downed UMass, 4-2.
The Wisconsin native pitched the final four innings of NU's 11-4 Sunday victory for his first collegiate save. In all, he pitched a total of 13 innings, gave up just two runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out four for a 1.38 ERA. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Muraski's career.
French earned All-America status by placing sixth in the women's epée at the NCAA Championships. French was NU's highest finisher as the 'Cats placed seventh overall. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of French's career.
