EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named freshman Kevin Coble (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) of men's basketball and senior Kristen Kjellman (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) of women's lacrosse its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Coble scored 15 points, connected on three 3-pointers and grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the 62-57 loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. He scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half to lead NU's second-half comeback.
Coble becomes the first freshman in the history of NU basketball to lead the team in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (5.2 rpg). This is the third Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Coble's career.
Kjellman led the second-ranked Wildcats with six points on four goals and two assists as Northwestern defeated No. 15 Penn 13-4 on Friday in Evanston. She scored three second-half goals and assisted on another that keyed a 7-0 run to end the game and up NU's record to 3-1.
Kjellman now has 15 on the season and 199 for her career, good for second place on NU's all-time list. This is the eighth Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Kjellman's career.
