EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hosted the inaugural Wildcat Women's Athletics Reunion weekend Feb. 10-11. Alums from the volleyball, basketball, swimming and diving, cross country and track, tennis, golf and fencing squads, in addition to current NU coaches, were in attendance to partake in a weekend filled with events and activities.
Several events were held throughout the weekend, including the 2006 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, a Happy Hour after the men's basketball game against Penn State, a pre-game reception before the women's basketball game versus Penn State and a halftime ceremony honoring current and former female student-athletes with Christine Brennan serving as the guest emcee.
Several former women's basketball players--including Anucha Browne (Sanders) and Karen Stack (Umlauf)--were in attendance to witness the 'Cats' 64-61 victory over Penn State to cap off the weekend.
"It was amazing to have so many women on campus from so many different eras," head coach Beth Combs said. "For our female student-athletes to be able to speak with our alum who paved the way for all of us, and to hear Christine Brennan talk of her time at NU and what it has meant was wonderful. I thank all of our alumnae who traveled from all over the country to be a part of this event. This weekend is truly what being a Wildcat is all about!"
In conjunction with the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day, the Chicago Sky held a clinic prior to the women's basketball game in the practice gym of McGaw Hall. Chicago Sky head coach and General Manager Bo Overton, Sky player Amanda Lassiter, Combs and Brennan all spoke at the clinic.
