EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern's wrestling team has been awarded the NCAA Public Recognition Award for teams that have an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.

"That's the great thing about Northwestern, we can always stress the academics and athletics," head coach Tim Cysewski said. "Those are just the kinds of kids we recruit. It's a great honor."

Other NU sports to win the award are: baseball, men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, fencing, women's golf, lacrosse and volleyball.

The wrestling team started its season last Saturday at the Eastern Michigan Open, where three Wildcats won their respective weight classes. This Sunday, the team is again in action at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich.
