EVANSTON, Ill. -- In the most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data released by the NCAA in October, Northwestern continues to pace the Big Ten and the nation in student-athlete academic success with a 98 percent GSR.

Northwestern's GSR of 98 percent is the best in the Big Ten Conference, 10 points higher than two league schools with the second-highest rate of 88 percent. It also ties with Notre Dame and Navy for the best GSR in the nation.

Fourteen of NU's 18 sports have perfect 100 percent GSRs: baseball, women's basketball, cross country, fencing, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, men's soccer, softball, men's swimming, women's swimming, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball. Women's lacrosse does not count in GSR figures because the data is compiled from students who began their studies from 1997-2000, and lacrosse was not reinstated as a program at NU until 2002.

The NCAA created the Graduation Success Rate in 2004 to more accurately assess long-term student-athlete academic success. The GSR differs from federal methodology in that it accounts for transfers into and out of an institution. NCAA GSR figures include 36 percent more student-athletes than the federal rate.
