EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Brandon Precin (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) of wrestling and Ellen Jaeschke (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove/Air Force) of women's basketball as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Precin won the 125-lb. open division at the Michigan State Open with a victory over Eric Morrill of Edinboro University, 2-0, in the finals. Along the way, the sophomore earned two pins over his first two opponents, then finished his final two off without allowing a single point against him. The win was his second of the year in as many tournaments as he finished the Eastern Michigan Open 5-0 a week ago.
Jaeschke was named to the All-Tournament team at the WSF Classic in New Mexico over the weekend with 36 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks in the Wildcats' opening three games. In an overtime victory over Dayton, the junior scored 9 points on 4-of-8 shooting with 4 blocks. Against Western Michigan, the junior exploded for a 19-point, 13-rebound and 5-block perfomance to go along with two steals in the narrow loss. Jaeschke closed out the tournament with 8 points, 3 rebounds and another block against the host New Mexico Lobos.
