EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Justin Pines (Media, Pa/Strath Haven) of men's soccer and Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) of volleyball as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Pines earned a shutout in his first game of the season on Sunday, while playing all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Michigan State. The senior's one save helped the ninth-ranked Wildcats earn their ninth shutout of the season, which is a team record. The win tied the program-record for best conference record in a season.

Paulus returned from a two-match absence due to injury and recorded a pair of double- doubles in Northwestern's wins over Michigan State and No. 20 Michigan last week. Against the Spartans, Paulus had 11 kills and 13 digs before posting a team-best 16 kills and 13 digs versus the Wolverines. Paulus climbed into the No. 15 spot on NU's career kills list with 1,104 after her performances last week.
