NU Ranked in Top Five

EVANSTON, Ill.-- Amateur Wrestling News' (AWN) top 20 poll has been released and includes Northwestern in the No. 4 spot, ahead of Big Ten foes Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana and Illinois. The magazine also ranked the top wrestlers by weight class and included Ryan Lang (North Royalton, Ohio/Lakewood St. Edward) and Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion) on top of their respective classes and expected to compete for the national championship.
Lang is coming off a season in which he finished second at the NCAA Championships at 141 lbs., earned his second straight All-America honors and won the Big Ten Championships. Lang also won at the 44th annual Midlands Championships, won the NWCA All-Star Classic and finished 23-7 overall on the year.
Fox posted a career-best 33-5 record, 13-2 dual mark and went 6-1 in the Big Ten. He finished third at NCAA Championships to earn first career All-American honor and started the season on a career-best 14-match winning streak.
In addition to the No. 1-ranked pair, Mike Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) is ranked third in the 197 lb. weight class. Tamillow had a team-high 37 wins with only five losses, which included a 16-3 dual mark. The senior won the Big Ten Championships, the Midlands Championships and finished seventh at the NCAA Championships.
NU begins its season on Nov. 3 at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti, Mich.
