EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern has named Omar Conteh (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) of football and Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia) of women's tennis as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Conteh racked up a career-high 115 yards on 15 carries, including a 49-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter, during the Wildcats' 28-16 loss to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. The junior also caught four passes for 24 yards, highlighted by a 15-yard catch. He averaged 7.7 yards per carry and more than seven yards everytime he touched the ball.
Mosolova competed in her first tournament at Northwestern at the Nike Cal Invitational and came home with a doubles title and an appearance in the singles final, which was abandoned. In the Blue ITA Doubles tournament, the freshman and Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) teamed up to defeat the No. 1 seeded pair of Kelcy McKenna and Nadia Abdala from Arizona State to give NU its second doubles title of the weekend. In the Gold ITA Singles tournament, Mosolova dispatched the No. 1 seed and fourth-ranked player in the nation, Suzi Babos, of Cal to reach the later-abandoned finals against teammate Georgia Rose (Mettwa, Ill./North Shore County Day).
