EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has picked up Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors for the third time this year and the ninth time in his career after helping No. 8 Northwestern to a dual-meet win over previously undefeated No. 16 Notre Dame last Saturday.
The accolade is the seventh for the Wildcats this season, breaking their own conference record of six set last year. In addition to Grevers' trio, classmate Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) has two, junior Kyle Bubolz (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) has one and sophomore Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) has one.
Grevers broke two pool records, including one in an NCAA "A" standard, on Saturday. The senior set an "A" time in the 200 IM at 1:45.12, which ranks second in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.com. The time was just .03 seconds off NU's school record held by Alexandrov.
Grevers' second pool record came as part of the 400 medley relay team (3:19.52). He also swam and won the 50 free and 200 back.
