EVANSTON, Ill -- Northwestern has named sophomore John Franklin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./North Broward Prep) of men's swimming and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) of women's tennis its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Franklin swam a pool-record-breaking relay and won both breaststroke events Saturday to help No. 8 Northwestern defeat previously undefeated No. 16 Notre Dame.

He swam the breast leg on NU's 400 medley relay that set a pool record with a 3:19.52. He then captured both the 100 breast (56.47) and the 200 breast (2:03.94) for the 'Cats. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Franklin's career.

Rose gave up only three games en route to a perfect 3-0 singles record at the Florida State Invitational. Rose finished on top of the singles standings with 28 points and also won two doubles matches during the two-day tournament.

The sophomore's dominating 6-2, 6-0 victory over Florida State's 58th-ranked Lauren Macfarlane highlighted her performance. This is the second Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Rose's career.
