Northwestern Names Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named senior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) of men's swimming and Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) of women's fencing its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Alexandrov was named Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet at the Dallas Morning News Swimming & Diving Classic, where NU defeated No. 3 California, No. 10 Florida State and host SMU. Alexandrov won four individual events and set six meet and pool records.
His best performance came with an NCAA 'A' time of 53.01 in the 100 breast. That time currently is the nation's best in the event. This is his first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor.
Nemecek was NU's top finisher at the USFA North American Cup, finishing second in foil out of 99 competitors. Nemecek continues her stellar sophomore season after compiling four top-three finishes and an 18-0 dual record this year. This is her second Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor this season.
