EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern announced the 2006-07 women's basketball schedule today. This year's slate features seven teams who finished in the 2005-06 Associated Press Top 25 poll, including a potential matchup against defending national champion, Maryland.
The Wildcats open at home for the fourth time in the past six years, welcoming regional foe Valparaiso to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
The 'Cats spend the next three weeks on the road, playing at Loyola (Nov. 12) and Miami (Ohio) (Nov. 17) before traveling to the tropical destination of Freeport, Grand Bahama Island for the Junkanoo Jam. While there, NU will take on Mississippi on Nov. 24 and play either Gardner-Webb or defending national champion Maryland on Nov. 25.
After playing UIC on Nov. 29, Northwestern hosts its own tournament on Dec. 1 and 2 -- the 23rd annual Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational. This year's participants include Northern Illinois, Cincinnati and Princeton.
Following a home contest against Missouri (Dec. 10), the 'Cats are on the road for five of the next six games. NU travels to DePaul (Dec. 13), Nebraska (Dec. 16) and Utah (Dec. 20). They continue pounding the pavement, opening the Big Ten schedule at Wisconsin (Dec. 28) and at Penn State (Jan. 4). The lone home game during that stretch is versus Georgia Tech on Dec. 18.
The 'Cats play home and away conference contests versus Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State. Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana meet up with NU once during the season.
The Big Ten Tournament will once again be held at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Ind. March 1-4, 2007.
