EVANSTON, Ill.--The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) ranked Northwestern fourth among NCAA Division I institutions in its fourth-annual Collegiate Power Rankings. This marks the third straight year Northwestern has finished in the top 10.
The rankings are calculated by averaging each school's U.S. News & World Report ranking, the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup rank and the student-athlete graduation rate of each school.
Northwestern ranked 12th in the U.S. News & World Report ratings, 29th in the final Directors' Cup standings and 39th in Division I student-athlete graduation rates.
NU is the highest-ranked Big Ten school, followed by Michigan at No. 6 and Wisconsin and Illinois at No. 14 and 15, respectively. Duke rated No. 1 for the second straight year, while Stanford and Notre Dame rounded out the top three.
Founded in 2000, the NCSA matches college coaches with student-athletes by building a lasting relationship and empowering student-athletes to achieve the best education possible. The NCSA Power Rankings provide data that allows prospective student-athletes and parents to evaluate the particular strengths of universities based on academic and athletic factors, as well as student-athlete graduation rates.
NCSA's Collegiate Power Rankings were developed by NCSA founder and CEO Chris Krause in 2002 to encourage student-athletes and parents to take a comprehensive approach to choosing a school based on its overall merits. Colleges and universities are given a ranking based on academics, athletics, and student-athlete graduation rates enabling student-athletes to obtain a true picture of the most complete and well-rounded schools.
